Fruit Packaging

Attracting kids to healthier snacks.

In grocery stores, packages of unhealthy snacks attract young children. The goal of this project is to redirect children's attention to the healthier snack options: fruits.

The Problem

Initial Research

Besides the obvious competition with the colorful packaging designs of junk food brands, other possible areas for improvements were searched such as the function of the package besides protecting the fruit and the afterlife of the package.

Idea Brainstorm

mom approved and child approved

Based on the primary needs, the sketches were narrowed down. With rough sketch models of the selected concepts, interviews were conducted with the purchasers and the end users to test the concepts.

Concept Testing

checking for directions

Interviews were conducted with the customers, the end users, and the distributors to map out the key features that needed to be designed into the final packaging.

From the interviews, design goals were set. With those design goals in mind, the designs created in the early stages were eliminated or revised. The images below were the two designs that were revised in accordance to the interviewee's comments and feedbacks.

Revised Designs

meeting design goals

After much research, the designs were narrowed down to these two concepts. From further interviews and concept testing, the final decision was made.

The Solution

more than just a package

Through our interviews, we were able to pin point some areas that could be improved. The design had to please the desires of both the child and the parent. The end result is a package design that is both attractive to the child and the parent.
